Chicory

Bright blue chicory flowers are easy to spot in meadows or along roadsides in summer. The blue makes them stand out in the midst of the many yellow and white summer wildflowers. Each chicory flower blooms only for a day. It changes color from a dark violet-blue to a lighter lavender-blue as it slowly blooms in the early morning. As the petals open fully, the color changes to a light blue, showcasing the deep blue stamen at the center. By early afternoon, when the sun is shining bright, the petals begin to close. The flowers turn into an even lighter blue, and then slowly turn white as the flower wilts away. With every new day, a new flower is ready to bloom.
